Chapter 10
I had a lot to look forward too. Janet and I would be starting college in a few weeks and we were ready. We spent our little bit of saved up money on new clothes and other items for our dorm room. We were lucky enough to be roommates and we were going to have the room decked out. We had everything we needed, we were just anxious for the orientation day come. It was only a week away, but we were ready to go a long time ago. Although we decided to go to Drexel, we still had the option to go home occasionally. It wasn’t like our parents were far from us, so we’d probably get random visits. We didn’t care, we just loved the idea of us living together in a college dorm room.
Orientation day came around and we went to the school to register for our classes. When we got to the main building there was a banner that read “Welcome Class of 1999”. I was excited because it was so close and my future was right before my eyes. I couldn’t wait to get in class because I was hoping that the classes would be more interesting than they were in high school. I knew they’d be a bit harder for me but I was ready to get it done because I had my future ahead of me and I wasn’t going to let anything or anyone get in the way of my success. We took a small tour around campus and we also got to see our room and we loved it. We got our IDs and we were sent on our way. Move in day was on August 20th and it couldn’t come fast enough. Last minute shopping and packing seemed to be all I was able to get done. My mom suggested that I quit my job, so that I could focus more on my studies during my first year. I had some money saved up so I wouldn’t be completely broke.
A week before it was time to move in things started to get a little weird again. I overheard another conversation that Ms. Janice was having on the phone. I was in my room blasting music and cleaning up. My mom had left out to grab us some Chinese food so that we could have lunch. In the midst of me cleaning and dancing around my room, I got thirsty. I opened my door and started to walk down the hallway. I could hear Ms. Janice on the phone. I stood at the top of the stairs to listen. I started to remember the last conversation I had heard a few weeks ago. Ever since that day, I had been very suspicious of her. She seemed to be acting a bit normal. I hadn’t seen her having private conversations. She normally would just take her calls and not dismiss herself, so I assumed she was just having regular conversations. Well this one, I had a feeling she was up to some more bullshit.
